The research program for this post will be carried out as part of PhD studies in the Department of Systems Engineering and Automatic Control in the University of Valladolid, with the Supervision and Process Control research group. The person appointed will be sent to Petronor, an oil refinery of the Repsol group, near Bilbao in Spain for eighteen months to carry out significant parts of the research. There will also be a short two month secondment to the Carnegie Mellon University in the USA to study techniques in optimization.
The activity of the post in the doctoral programme will be to develop methods for on-line predictive simulations and model based optimization taking account of uncertainty introduced by equipment condition. This will enable decision support for operation of process networks, assessing the consequences of actions in faulty conditions.
This program offers a three year full-time position as researcher with a salary and allowances according to EU regulations for Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN Early Stage Researchers. ((2214€/month gross salary, including social security, plus a mobility allowance of 454.2€/month and a family allowance of 500€/month depending on the family situation). The ESR contract offered by the University of Valladolid is a temporary, full time one.
ESRs in an EID-ITN also undertake a comprehensive personalised development programme with targeted training measures and participate in a range of network events with the consortium partners as well as in workshops and conferences.
Candidates should have an internationally recognized degree at masters level (or equivalent) in Process, Electrical or Control Engineering (or closely related field). In addition the candidate is expected to be well acquainted with modelling and simulation, control and optimization topics.
To be eligible, any candidate must be an Early Stage Researcher. They must not have a PhD and must have fewer than 4 years' research experience. At the time of the selection, applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work or studies) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the starting date. Researchers are required to undertake trans-national mobility when taking up the appointment.
These eligibility requirements for Marie Skłodowska-Curie ESRs are non-negotiable and ineligible candidates will not be considered.
Language: Applicants must demonstrate that their ability to understand and express themselves in both written and spoken English is sufficiently high for them to derive the full benefit from the network training. Working knowledge of Spanish would be appreciated.
